Meet Your Host and Guide: Femi Soewu
“Everything you know or have heard about Africa is true. But is that all?!”
Femi Soewu is a historian, passionate storyteller, cultural bridge builder, and social entrepreneur with a deep-rooted connection to both Africa and Europe. Having spent half his life on each continent, he brings a unique perspective that challenges narratives and fosters understanding between cultures. He has dedicated his life to bridging cultures, breaking stereotypes, and giving a voice to African perspectives in Europe.
With a Bachelor’s degree in History from Ogun State University, Nigeria (1987), and another in Social Work from Inholland University of Applied Sciences, The Netherlands (2006), Femi’s journey has been anything but conventional. From teaching high school students in Nigeria to working for a leading national newspaper, from farming in Germany to supporting youth and the elderly in The Netherlands, his diverse experiences shape his mission today. Femi has worn many hats, but his passion has always remained the same: fostering understanding.
As the founder of Africa Web TV, a popular media platform dedicated to amplifying African voices, and Africa Night, a legendary monthly dance event that introduced modern African music to thousands across The Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany (1998–2024), Femi is constantly playing a crucial role in reshaping the African cultural landscape in Europe.
Beyond entertainment, he is a diversity consultant. He leads diversity and integration workshops, helping companies and communities navigate cultural conversations with openness and curiosity.
Currently serving as the chairperson of Stichting Afropeans, Femi continues his mission to support and empower people of African heritage across Europe.
A strategic thinker, poet, and avid cyclist, Femi uses music, spoken word, video, and interactive speaking sessions to break barriers and build bridges between Africa and Europe. Fluent in Yoruba, English, and Dutch, and with just enough German to find his way, he continues to explore, educate, and inspire.
